The Morning Chase

The Morning Chase is a vivid snapshot of life on the land, capturing the beauty, chaos, humour, and fragile balance that exists within the natural world each day. Inspired by real moments from rural life, the song follows the energy of dawn as animals, predators, weather, instinct, and survival all collide in the rhythm of an ordinary morning.

At the centre of the story is Gypsy, full of excitement and instinct, chasing chickens through the yard as feathers fly and the farm bursts awake under the morning sun. Around her, the wider landscape continues its endless cycle. Guineafowl scatter, a goanna prowls the chicken house, an eagle circles overhead, and foxes wait patiently in the shadows for nightfall. Every creature is simply following its role within nature’s unwritten rules.

Beneath the playful imagery and cinematic farmyard scenes, the song carries deeper themes about survival, coexistence, protection, instinct, and the delicate tension between peace and danger. Life on the land is shown not as romantic perfection, but as something raw, unpredictable, beautiful, and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature.

Musically and emotionally, “The Morning Chase” was created to feel warm, earthy, cinematic, and alive with movement. It blends humour, reflection, tension, and tenderness into a song that feels both deeply Australian and universally human.

At its heart, the song is a reminder that every sunrise brings another chance to rise, protect, rebuild, and keep moving within the ever-turning rhythm of life.

The Morning Chase

[Intro]

Yeah… morning light on the yard…
Gypsy's up again…

[Verse 1]

Gypsy loves the chase,
tongue hanging out, joy on her face,
Chickens dancing side to side,
scrambling hard just to find a place to hide.

Guineas in their sports mode,
heads down low on the dusty road,
Feathers flash and the yard's alive,
in that sunrise farmyard drive.

[Chorus]

Oh, barking, dodging, feathers flying,
chickens scratching in the grain,
Joyous times in the morning sun,
quiet beauty in the rain.

It's a wild little world on a patch of land,
where peace and trouble meet,
Every dawn writes a brand new song
in the rhythm of wings and feet.

[Verse 2]

Goanna in the chicken house!
I grab the rake and give him chase,
He turns slow with ancient eyes,
like he's owned this time and place.

Up above an eagle glides,
majestic just for its own sake,
All eyes watching, night and day,
for the meal that hunger takes.

[Chorus]

Yeah, barking, dodging, feathers flying,
chickens scattering through the grain,
Joyous times in the morning sun,
washed clean by passing rain.

There's a law out here older than us,
written plain to see,
Every life holds tight to breath
on this edge of wild and free.

[Bridge]

Foxes plan their nightly raid,
with careful stealth and gaze,
Moon stays hidden in the dark,
like it's tired of watching these plays.

Poultry huddle wing to wing,
waiting for the light of day,
Praying dawn will rise again
and keep the dark at bay.

[Verse 3]

Gypsy rests, but one eye wakes,
ears tuned to every sound,
While the bush breathes in and out,
life and loss both circling round.

From rake to claw, from wing to tooth,
every creature finds its way,
In this rough and tender balance
that repeats with every day.

[Final Chorus]

Oh, barking, dodging, feathers flying,
morning sun on dust and grain,
Joy and danger walk together,
through the shine and through the rain.

It's a hard kind of grace on a piece of land,
where the wild and the homestead blend,
And every dawn we rise again…
to chase, defend, and tend.

[Outro]

Mm…
Just another morning on the land…
